That’s a question that I get asked all the time. While there can be many different answers, in this post I’m going to share the method I use that I find works best.
Some people might argue that email JV’s are the best way to build your list. They might be one of the fastest, but they’re hard to get and a lot of work to setup.
Others might say to give away a free report and promote it with PPC, but that’s time consuming and can get expensive real fast.
Ideally you’ll want something that is the perfect combination of being easy to setup, something that works automatically and where someone else does most of the work.
That’s why I use the $7 Script.
This $7 Script has been around for over a year, but I’ve just been using it for the last 3-4 months.
Here’s How It Works:
- Someone visits your website and buys your product.
- After completing payment through Paypal, they’re sent to an opt-in page where it’s strongly suggested they opt-in before they can download the product (you get a new subscriber).
- Everyone who buys it can immediately resell it as an affiliate and earn a 100% instant commission in their Paypal account.
- Buyers (affiliates) promote it to earn instant commissions, and you virally build a list.
Here’s What Makes It So Great:
Let’s say that through your own marketing, 100 people buy your $7 product.
If just 5 of those 100 people promote it as an affiliate, they might sell 200 additional copies.
If just 10 of those 200 people promote it, they might sell an additional 400 copies.
If just 20 of those 400 people promote it, they might sell an additional 800 copies.
And so on… that’s viral marketing at its best. You set it up, do a little promotion, leave the rest to affiliates and your list building campaign (and profits) will explode.
And while you won’t make any sales off the actual sales of your $7 report because you’ll be giving it as a commission to the affiliates, you’ll build a list of highly qualified prospects.
Here’s a real working example of how it works: www.TrafficTipsReport.com
Extra Features
I’m not going to get into all of it here, but there are some extra features worth mentioning:
- You can set up a one time offer (OTO) that’s placed before the download page and either keep 100% of the sale for yourself or split it with the affiliates. It’s a great way to earn some instant income from other people’s promotion.
- The script looks after the complete order process. It will redirect people to Paypal, confirm the purchase and automatically deliver it in real time and by email. And since it confirms Paypal purchases there’s no download fraud.
- It comes complete with PHP and HTML templates (just add your own text / graphics) and an easy setup form so anyone can install it even if you have zero script installation experience.
- On the download page, there’s a ‘tell-a-friend’ form that people can fill out to let others know about your product while automatically inserting their affiliate link.
- Everything’s customizable, from the emails to the sales and download page templates, from the pricing to commissions, and use of the OTO.
- You can also ban affiliates for unethical promotion, let anyone promote your products even if they didn’t buy it or use it to give away products for free.
Please Note: If you’re interested in getting your hands on the $7 script – it can’t be bought.
But it does come free when you buy Jonathan Leger’s “Seven Dollar Secrets” ebook.
Know Your Numbers – Bonus Example
If you know your conversion numbers like the back of your hand, you can do a lot more than just grow your list with the $7 script.
In this example, I’m using the conversion numbers from my Traffic Tips Report.
Sales page conversion rate: 7.1%
OTO conversion rate: 39%
Profits per 100 $7 sales
Affiliate: 100 sales x $7 = $700
Me (OTO sales): (100 sales x 39%) x $17 = $663
Therefore every person who signs up is worth $6.63 to me in immediate sales and much more in long term profits.
Since my original sales page converted at 7.1%, that means that about 1 in 14 people who visit my site purchase the $7 report.
Why’s that important?
Because if I wanted to promote the sales page by PPC (AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, MSN Live) I know what I should pay per click and how much I’ll make.
If I paid $0.20 per click, at a 7.1% conversion rate, it would cost me $2.80 for each buyer. Since each buyer is worth an immediate $13.63 ($7 original sale + $6.63 OTO sales) each, I’d profit $10.83 on average per signup.
But that’s not all. Since roughly 5% of people who buy the report promote it, if I use PPC to generate 100 sales and 5 of those people promote it, I’ll get a lot more signups and OTO sales - and they’ll be some very happy affiliates with full Paypal accounts.
That’s the power of the $7 Script — if you’re not using it to build a HUGE list, I suggest you start –> www.7DollarSecrets.com.

Great post Justin,
I totally agree, this method is effective and easy to implement. I have personally used it in a couple of niches with great success.
Anybody doubting the power of this method just needs to take action, good stuff.

Hi Justin,
Good post. I think many people make the mistake of thinking you can only sell $7 products when you can charge more, add a OTO, build your list, etc.
All the best,

Hi Justin,
I remember when the $7 script came out. It was a ‘big’ hit and everyonw was using it. Due to this it’s benefits got lost on the internet marketing community and so was forgotten by most.
Those that stuck with it and use it in their own niches have made some real profit and I am glad that you have taken the time to point this out

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.
Out of all the list building methods I’ve used, I’ve always liked the $7 script - it’s easy to use and works great… even if it’s over a year old and been mostly forgotten

Great post Justin…
The best part about this method is that instead of just creating a standard list, you’re creating a buyer’s list (since people are paying $7 for the report). Buyer’s lists are at least 10 times more valuable than standard lists in my opinion.
